Polk City is a small town dream... not too far from big city amenities! It's charm is for many reasons, but one of the most recognized is it's proximity to Big Creek State Park, many other popular parks such as Kiwanis Park, Cherry Glen Park, Red Feather Prairie Park & the Sycamore Trails Park. It sits alongside Saylorville Lake, which in itself is a fantastic scenic attraction for Polk City residents & visitors!
On the Saylorville Lake Marina, is Latitude 41 Bar & Grill... the ONLY Des Moines area floating bar & grill, where you can often listen to live music, watch the boats come and go, and of course eat/drink/be merry!!
Polk City students join Alleman, Elkhart & Sheldahl at North Polk Middle & High Schools, in Alleman, just a few miles from Polk City. There is one Elementary school in Polk City.
Other amazing food stops to mention... The SandBar Grill, which is also located on the Saylorville Marina & known for it's homemade ginger beer mules. Reising Sun Cafe, is an absolute must for both breakfast & lunch... sure to give you the energy you need for all of the activities in the surrounding area! One more favorite we would really love to mention is Papa's Pizzeria, which packs an enormous menu, but mostly known for the obvious... pizza!
